North East landlord Gentoo has made its second senior appointment in as many months by naming a new director of asset and sustainability.
Peter Akers will start his new role at the 30,000-home landlord after previously being employed as associate director of asset.
He joined Gentoo in March 2023 and has been praised by the landlord for “bringing a wealth of knowledge having worked in the housing sector for over 15 years”.
Mr Akers had previously worked at North Star as head of assets and property services.
His appointment at Gentoo follows the hiring of Marc Edwards as its new executive director of property in September.
Mr Akers said: “I am delighted to have been appointed in my role, leading the group’s investment plan and continuing to develop our work surrounding energy efficiency and sustainability.
“I’m happy to be continuing to work alongside a brilliant asset and sustainability team, and am committed to developing and improving our service to customers and the city of Sunderland through making the right investment decisions.”
Since joining Gentoo, he has led on the landlord’s approach to strategic asset management, and helped ensure there is a clear understanding on the performance and sustainability of homes across the business.
Mr Akers has worked closely with other departments and key stakeholders to ensure Gentoo’s investment decisions, including its current £250m investment programme in existing homes, targets areas of higher repairs expenditure and improves customer satisfaction.
In his new role, he will lead Gentoo’s approach to strategic asset management, asset sustainability, investment plan delivery and help ensure all of the landlord’s stock has an Energy Performance Certificate rating of C by 2030.
Mr Edwards said: “I would like to congratulate Peter in his new role, and I am confident he will ensure Gentoo make data-led investment decisions to ensure our customers continue to have safe, decent homes to live in while continuing to improve Gentoo’s approach to sustainability, looking to reduce energy costs for our customers and supporting Gentoo’s contribution to working towards a future net-zero city in Sunderland.”
In February, Gentoo announced that it had hired a former Ocado executive in a newly created role to boost its service to tenants.
