Cardiff Community Housing Association (CCHA) has appointed a senior lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University as its new chair.
Janet Beauchamp has taken on the role as of 1 October and succeeds Mike Owen, who is retiring.
Mr Owen had been chair of CCHA for five years, taking on the role after the landlord spent a year working through regulatory issues.
He was previously chief executive of Merthyr Valleys Homes. Though he retired from executive roles in 2019, he continued to carry out consultancy work in the sector, including working with Cornwall Council to improve its housing services.
A chartered town planner, Ms Beauchamp is an existing board member at CCHA and currently a senior lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University. She has also taught on Chartered Institute of Housing-accredited undergraduate pathways.
Ms Beauchamp is also a mentor on the Pathways to Board programme, a training academy dedicated to supporting ethnically diverse candidates in securing board member positions, CCHA said.
Brian Pickett, chief executive of CCHA, said: “Throughout his career, Mike has made a significant impact on the lives of countless people, and his support and guidance has been instrumental in navigating CCHA through some difficult times to one of stability. His wisdom and experience will be deeply missed.
“We wish Mike all the very best in his retirement and would like to congratulate Janet on her appointment as CCHA’s new chair.”
“I am excited to work with the board and corporate leadership team to continue delivering high-quality affordable housing and making a positive difference in our communities,” Ms Beauchamp said.
Last week, the 3,000-home landlord announced the appointment of Kirsty Ellis as its new corporate director of housing and communities.
In July, CCHA appointed Andrew Bradley as its new corporate director of assets and property. He joined CCHA in November 2019 as assets and compliance manager and was appointed head of asset management and decarbonisation in February 2021.
Mr Pickett was named chief executive in August last year following the departure of Hayley Selway.
