This year’s UK Housing Awards ceremony, which was due to take place on Friday, has been cancelled.
Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing, the organisers of the UK Housing Awards, decided to cancel the awards following the inquest into the death of two-year-old Awaab Ishak last week.
A coroner found that the toddler died from a respiratory condition caused by mould in a Rochdale Boroughwide Housing flat.
The organisers of the UK Housing Awards said they agree that it is now time for the sector to reflect and that it would not be appropriate to hold an awards ceremony at this time.
They said that the aim of the awards is to share learning and good practice widely across the sector.
To make sure that learning from the winners is still shared, Inside Housing will be providing coverage of all the winners on its website and in December’s print edition. This will contain shareable details about the winning projects.
