Residents of a central London housing estate have been asked to vote on whether they want regeneration plans for the area to go head.
Westminster Council’s referendum on plans for the Ebury Bridge Estate in Pimlico began on Friday and will run until Thursday.
The plans include the refurbishment of 1930s blocks on the estate, a new playground and larger open areas, and a new community centre.
The referendum is the second of five being carried out by the council. In the first, residents in Tollgate Gardens Estate in Kilburn Park voted in favour of regeneration which included building 155 homes and refurbishing 53.
A vote will begin from next Wednesday for the Church Street area to approve plans for 180 new private homes, and 50 affordable units, as well as other changes.
The council said it will scrap its plans for any of the areas if they are opposed by residents.
Jonathan Glanz, cabinet member for housing at the council, said: ‘These votes represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revive these areas and to build much-needed new homes, to improve existing housing stock, create hundreds of new jobs, new community facilities and improve the public realm in central London.’
