The longtime head of the landlord, Steve Jones, is to step down after 16 years, according to a statement on its website.

Barcud manages 4,000 homes across Ceredigion, Powys, North Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, and is one of the largest employers in the region.

It was formed through a merger between Mid-Wales Housing Association and Tai Ceredigion in November 2020.

Mr Jones was involved first in setting up Tai Ceredigion, before leading the post-merger integration work, according to Alison Thorne, chair of Barcud.

“The Barcud group board thanks Steve for his work and commitment over the years and wish him well,” said Ms Thorne, who was appointed earlier this year.

“We are now beginning the search for a new group chief executive to lead Barcud forward. In the interim, the leadership team will continue to ensure that Barcud’s vital services and operations are maintained, backed by the strong partnership with our tenants through the Barcud Monitoring Group.”

In 2021, shortly after the merger, Barcud secured £70m in long-term financing to build up to 1,000 energy-efficient homes.

“I am very proud of our delivery of major low-carbon housing improvements, new mixed-tenure homes, and bilingual rural community services,” said outgoing boss Mr Jones.

“Most of all, I am grateful to the tenant representatives who have worked alongside us to design and monitor this work, leading to sector recognition as a tenant engagement best practice organisation,” he added.

“I wish Barcud every success building on those strong foundations in the future.”
