Karbon Homes has launched a new landlord following a merger between one of its subsidiaries and another provider #UKhousing

In an update to the stock market on Friday, Karbon Homes revealed that it has launched a new 3,000-home provider called 54North Homes.

York Housing Association (YHA), which has been part of Karbon Homes since 2017, revealed it was exploring a “formal partnership” with Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) in May.

In September, it was confirmed that YHA and LYHA had agreed to join through a transfer of engagements.

The decision to form 54North Homes follows a thorough consultation process, where both organisations sought the views of their colleagues, customers and stakeholders.

This consultation feedback, combined with a detailed due-diligence process, helped shape the new landlord’s final business plan.

The partnership aims to deliver excellent services to customers by having the increased strength and opportunities of being part of a larger group while retaining a local approach to and understanding of their customer base.

Steve Secker, chair of YHA, has been appointed as chair of 54North Homes and Mark Pearson, chief executive of LYHA, has been appointed as managing director.

Mr Pearson said: “Over the last few months, it has been inspiring to see the synergy between the two organisations. I am confident that combining each team’s strengths and expertise will create a strong and effective organisation.”

Mr Pearson said the new association will not only provide safe and secure homes in the communities it serves, but also attempt to make a positive, lasting difference throughout Yorkshire.

Paul Fiddaman, group chief executive of Karbon Homes, said he was looking forward to his LYHA colleagues joining the Karbon family as part of 54North Homes.

“YHA has been a subsidiary of Karbon for five years and this partnership has resulted in increased customer satisfaction and investment in homes and services, as well as the development of many new homes in the Yorkshire area.

“We are very proud of what has already been achieved and we believe 54North Homes will enable an even greater positive impact for more customers in the Yorkshire area.”

The announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that Optivo and Southern Housing Group, the large London landlords, have completed their merger process under the name Southern Housing.
