Morning Briefing: thousands descend on Manchester for Housing 2019 #ukhousing

On social media

Housing professionals from all corners of the UK are arriving in Manchester for the largest sector event in the calendar – Housing 2019, the annual Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) conference and exhibition.

Inside Housing will be bringing you the most up-to-date, comprehensive coverage of the event anywhere, including all the biggest stories, live tweeting from the key sessions, a daily email newsletter rounding up the key talking points and daily print magazines of conference news.

Delegates and speakers have been tweeting as they arrive for the event:

In the news

Away from Manchester, The Sun is reporting calls from housing sector leaders for the next prime minister to commit billions of pounds to build 145,000 new social homes.

Meanwhile, Sky News reports that the current prime minister has pledged to improve housing for people with disabilities. Look out for something on this on Inside Housing later today.

Our sister publication, Social Housing, is today publishing the results of its Housing Sector Survey, produced in partnership with Savills. The magazine has teased some of the initial findings, including data showing 70% of councils are set to ramp up delivery of affordable homes. Inside Housing has also trailed the report.
