Southway Housing Trust has appointed an executive director of corporate services #UKhousing

Paul Howes has taken on the newly created role, which the landlord hopes will strengthen its leadership team.

He joined in the new year from Stockport Homes, where he led on a range of services from marketing and communications to technology and digital transformation.

At 6,000-home Southway, Mr Howes will have responsibility for the association’s corporate functions that support business development and the delivery of frontline services to customers.

These include human resources and organisational development, technology and systems, communications, and corporate governance.

Mr Howes said: “I’m delighted to be joining Southway at a really exciting time for the business, as we work with tenants on a new five-year plan to make our homes and communities even better places to live.

“I’m looking forward to working with new colleagues, Southway tenants, board members and stakeholders to make sure we provide the best possible services for our customers.”

Southway said Mr Howes’ role will be critical in ensuring the association delivers the objectives and priorities within the new five-year corporate plan being launched in April.

In November, the Manchester-based association became the 14th member of JV North as it set a target for 1,000 new net zero homes by 2030.

John Bowker, chief executive of Southway, said: “Paul brings a wealth of experience and ideas to this very important new role for Southway. He will do a great job for the trust and our tenants and play a leading role in maintaining and improving our services.”

Mr Bowker joined Southway in the summer, also from Stockport Homes, to take over the reigns as Karen Mitchell retired after 17 years.
