Large Midlands housing association Bromford has continued its stock rationalisation drive with a 100-home deal #UKhousing

The 44,000-home landlord has completed the sale of 98 homes across Chiltern, South Buckinghamshire and South Oxfordshire to Soha Housing.

Most of the homes are general needs social rented housing, with the rest for shared ownership or leasehold.

Wolverhampton-based Bromford began searching for a buyer with a stronger local focus around a year ago.

Soha owns around 7,000 homes, mostly in South Oxfordshire, where it was formed through a stock transfer from the council in 1997.

It said it was selected by Bromford because of its value for money credentials and services to residents, with all affected residents consulted during the process.

In November, Bromford told Inside Housing that its four-year strategy involved withdrawing from areas where it owns only small numbers of homes.

The process started with the sale of 86 homes in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Staffordshire Moorlands.

Natalie Robertson, associate director of localities at Bromford, said: “An integral part of the 2019-2023 Bromford strategy is allowing us to refocus our efforts so that we can invest more in building homes and relationships in those communities where we own significant numbers of homes.

“This work will be concluded over the coming year so that we can offer customers an even better level of service in our core geographies across central and South West England.

“As we owned 98 homes across Chiltern, South Buckinghamshire and South Oxfordshire, we decided customers would be better served by a housing association that had a greater presence in the area and we’ve worked hand in hand with customers throughout to minimise any disruption and answer their questions and queries.

“We’re pleased to have worked with Soha to take on these additional homes and believe customers will benefit from their existing local services.”

Kate Wareing, chief executive of Soha, said: “I am delighted to welcome our new residents to Soha. We are a local, not-for-profit, community landlord owned by our residents and staff.

“We exist to deliver excellent services to our residents, and build new homes for people who need them.

“As a local landlord we are always interested in how we can build and deliver more homes for people in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.”
