Two Welsh landlords complete merger to create rebranded group #UKhousing

Two Welsh housing association have completed their merger to create Beacon Cymru Group #UKhousing

Coastal Housing Group and RHA Wales believe the new organisation will provide a strong foundation for delivering high-quality housing and community services. It will own and manage 9,000 homes across South Wales.

The new name has been chosen to reflect the merger organisations’ legacies – uniting the Welsh valleys and coastline – as well as signalling its intent and ambitions.

In a release, the landlords explained that Beacons have historically been a source of connection and the new name embodies the organisation’s commitment to delivering change in communities.

The newly merged group aims to increase the availability and quality of affordable homes across the region, as well as strengthen partnerships with local authorities, the private sector, community organisations and residents to address pressing social challenges.

It will also invest in sustainability, leverage increased resources and capacity to invest more in frontline services, and enhance the use of technology and data to drive service improvement.

Debbie Green, chief executive of Coastal and chief executive designate of Beacon, said “This merger is a significant milestone, not only for our organisations but for the communities we serve. By combining our strengths, we can deliver on our shared mission to provide secure, sustainable, and affordable homes for generations to come.”

In May last year, Coastal Housing and RHA revealed the key appointments that had been made for the successor organisation.

They named the first executive and non-executive appointments for the merged provider. Peter Hughes was appointed chair designate and Patrick Hoare as vice-chair designate.

Law firm Devonshires represented both Coastal and RHA on the merger, providing advice on all aspects of the partnership, including structuring and lenders’ consents.

Gemma Bell, partner at Devonshires, said: “We are proud to have played a role in helping to facilitate this important partnership, and look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on the communities Beacon Cymru Group will serve.”

Beacon Cymru Group begins operations in this month, and residents, partners and stakeholders have been promised a “seamless continuity in service”.
