Large housing and care provider for older people Anchor Hanover has appointed a new chief executive to replace Jane Ashcroft #UKhousing

Sarah Jones will take over in August from Ms Ashcroft, who is stepping down from the role at England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people after 12 years at the helm.

Ms Jones joined Anchor as finance director in September 2014 from office supplies distributors Spicers, where she was chief financial officer.

A chartered accountant, she has held a variety of senior finance roles across large corporate and private equity businesses, including as director of finance in UK & Republic of Ireland at Carpetright as well as senior roles at HMV and the Burton Group/Arcadia.

Ms Jones, who is currently Anchor’s chief financial officer and has been a member of the board since 2020, said she is looking forward to “maintaining Anchor’s focus on providing more and better homes”.

“I am eager to ensure the organisation continues to evolve to meet the needs and expectations of the older people of today and tomorrow, and I also want to build on our influence in this socially vital debate with government and other stakeholders,” she added.

Ms Ashcroft said it “has been an enormous honour to lead Anchor”, adding that her decision to leave “was not an easy one”.

She said: “The achievements of the past few years mean I feel the time is right for me to move on.

“I am looking forward to building a non-executive portfolio as the next stage of my career.”

Christopher Kemball, chair of Anchor, said: “Jane has been a truly outstanding leader for the organisation, particularly during the COVID pandemic.

“The board and I extend our deep-felt thanks to her for such an inspirational and dedicated contribution to Anchor and the residents we serve.”

He added he was “delighted” that Ms Jones has taken on the role and looks forward to working with her.
