The annual tweetathon that is #HousingDay takes place on Monday (18 September), and Inside Housing is planning a whole series of Twitter Q&As and social media activity using the hashtag #IHchat to promote it.

The day, which is now in its fifth year, aims to celebrate the positive impact of social housing on people’s lives.

Terrie Alafat, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing, will take questions from 10am as part of a session focusing on where the sector goes next after Grenfell.

Before then, #HousingDay founder Ade Capon will kick off things off by introducing this year’s theme – ‘true people, real stories’ – and taking your questions.

Labour’s John Healey will talk politics and housing in a session at 2pm.

Major housing chief executives will be quizzed on how the sector can deliver more homes in another session at 11am. Carol Matthews of Riverside, Elizabeth Austerberry of Moat, Mark Henderson of Home Group will be answering the questions, in a session sponsored by H+H.

Polly Neate, the new chief executive of Shelter, will take questions about combating homelessness at 4pm.

Ever been frustrated by the national media’s depiction of social media tenants? From noon we will be running a session entitled ‘Tackling negative portrayals of social housing tenants’, with Richard Peacock, chief executive of Soha Housing.

The role of different tenures in the market will be the theme of a session at 1pm with Amy Nettleton, assistant development director – sales and marketing at Aster Group, and Philip Barnes, group land and planning director at Barratt.

Fellow sector heavy-hitters Sinead Butters, chair of Placeshapers, Tony Stacey, chief executive of South Yorkshire Housing Association and Liz Cook, chief executive of Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing – along with sponsor John Skivington, director at LHC – will chat about delivering social impact at 3pm.
