Northern housing association Yorkshire Housing has appointed Nick Atkin as its new chief executive.
Mr Atkin, who is currently chief executive of 7,000-home Halton Housing, will take over from Mervyn Jones when he retires at the end of the year.
He has also worked for the Audit Commission’s housing inspectorate and at a senior level in several other housing associations.
Yorkshire Housing, which owns and manages 18,000 homes, aims to build more than 3,000 new homes by 2021.
Mr Atkin said: “Yorkshire Housing has a strong reputation for delivering homes and the quality of its services.
“The transformation programme will revolutionise how the organisation works as well as enhance the services customers receive. I’m delighted to play my part in that success story and to also be returning to my Yorkshire roots.”
Will Lifford, chair of the board at Yorkshire Housing, said: “It’s great to have Nick on board. He has a great track record, having grown the business significantly at Halton and transformed its customer services through the use of digital technology, so that 90% of customer-generated transactions are now delivered online.
“With our own transformation programme and our ambitious new homes programme, he’s joining us at an exciting time.”
Ingrid Fife, chair of Halton Housing, added: “I’m sad that we will be losing our talented group chief executive, but also delighted for Nick that he has been recognised and successful in a move to head up a large regional housing association.
“Through his tenure, Halton Housing has become known nationally as an innovative and successful housing organisation. He has led a strong team that delivered its promises from the start and has gone on to respond to the challenges presented through an era of austerity.”
