London’s largest housing association L&Q has signed its first offsite manufacturing deal as part of its plan to use offsite on all developments by 2025.
The housing association, which plans to develop 10,000 homes over the next 10 years, has signed a deal with offsite timber frame manufacturer Stewart Milne Timber Systems to deliver frames for more than 1,500 L&Q homes.
The deal with Stewart Milne is the first to be struck as part of a new initiative by L&Q which aims to use some form of offsite construction on all of its new developments by 2025. It is also targeting its first fully offsite home by 2028.
Earlier this month, L&Q told Inside Housing that it would not partner with just one supplier as part of the plan but instead look at striking deals with a number of different suppliers to provide certain elements for its new builds.
The Stewart Milne deal is the first of these, but L&Q has said it is in discussions with several suppliers and aims to agree more contracts in the coming months.
Fiona Fletcher-Smith, group director of development and sales at L&Q, said: “Stewart Milne Timber Systems were selected after demonstrating their ability to design, manufacture, supply and erect residential units up to six storeys tall.
“They combine this with their capabilities in business information modelling, a 3D digital construction planning tool which streamlines how different elements of a project are brought together.”
