Great Places Housing Group has appointed a new executive director of growth #UKhousing

Helen Spencer has been promoted to the role after spending more than five years as director of development. In that position, she delivered more than 4,000 new homes.

Ms Spencer joined the 24,000-home landlord in 2004 as an assistant development officer after previously working at Contour Housing Group.

Great Places said she has led on a number of high-profile projects and bids, including Victoria North in Manchester.

Ms Spencer will be responsible for the delivery of the North West and Yorkshire-based association’s £1bn affordable housing development programme and manage key stakeholder relationships, such as the recently announced Homes England Strategic Partnership.

She will also be responsible for leading Great Places’ Plumlife Homes sales team, which will oversee the £750m Innovation Chain North construction framework, and the growth of its recently launched in-housebuilding contractor, Terra Nova Developments.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Spencer said she was excited to take on a new challenge as part of the executive team and help Great Places realise its ambitious development plans.

Matthew Harrison, chief executive at Great Places, said: “Helen’s appointment reflects the importance of the role and size of the challenge. We are pleased to continue to promote talent from within our organisation where appropriate.”

Mr Harrison spoke to Inside Housing a few months after the landlord merged with Equity Housing Group in April 2020.

The newly merged group had a target of delivering 8,000 homes over 10 years, and Mr Harrison told Inside Housing that his “pint pot is always well more than half full when it comes to development activity”.
