The plans outlined by Places for People will include almost 2,000 affordable homes #UKhousing

The landlord said the proposal for the homes across six villages was the largest planning application ever presented to East Herts District Council.

The new villages will be located to the north of Harlow on the Hertfordshire and Essex border. They will be set in over 1,000 hectares that will include a range of new infrastructure and amenities.

Places for People said the housing provision would be designed to suit the varying needs of the wider community and would include almost 2,000 affordable homes.

Plans include two secondary schools and up to six primary schools, healthcare facilities, leisure and sport facilities, and a new community centre.

The site forms part of Harlow and Gilston Garden Town, which the government has earmarked for the delivery of 23,000 new homes.

Adrian Bohr, chief executive for regeneration and communities at Places for People, said: “We are delighted to reach this significant planning milestone, getting the go-ahead for our 20-year plan to build an inclusive and attractive new village community in Gilston.

“Our proposals for Gilston Park Estate clearly demonstrate what sets Places for People apart. We’re not just another volume house builder, we are committed to adding lasting social value to the communities we build, to make them the very best for the people who will live, work and visit them. It is a responsibility we do not take lightly.”

Following East Herts District Council’s decision to grant planning permission, Places for People said it was now working on the Section 106 agreement, and that the masterplan for the first village would include around 1,800 homes.

Earlier this year, the investment arm of Places for People revealed it had acquired Igloo Regeneration, the development manager.
