Housing stigma campaign group appoints first campaign director #UKhousing

Nic Bliss will take on the new role having been head of policy at the Confederation of Co-operative Housing and a social housing resident himself for 30 years.

He will help the SSHS develop its membership and profile and facilitate the tenants on the group’s committee as they continue their work to tackle the stigma in social housing.

Mr Bliss said: “It’s an honour to work with this team. They have already done so much as volunteers to get across the message about how social housing stigma, in all its many forms, demeans tenants, and that the reality is there are so many people living in social housing with vibrant and exciting stories who give time to their communities.

“I hope that I can help them to ramp up the vitally important work they are doing.”

The group has been going since 2017 and is run by tenants with the support of a number of housing associations from across the UK.

Lynne Brosnan, chair at the SSHS, said: “Nic joins us at a time when we are just launching our SSHS membership and we are working with Durham and Sheffield Hallam universities, the Chartered Institute of Housing, Tpas and [consultant] Yvonne Davies on a social housing stigma pledge and toolkit which will be free to all and help the sector address stigma.”
