Scottish housing association appoints new finance boss
The West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) has announced a new director of finance.
The 4,200-home WSHA has confirmed that Valerie Wilson started the top finance role at the landlord last month.
Ms Wilson joins from a position as deputy chief executive at Cloch Housing Association, a post she held for 10 months.
She has a wealth of experience in finance and sits on the boards of Maryhill Housing Association and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations.

Ms Wilson will be responsible for the development of WSHA’s strategy, policy and performance in respect of finance, as well as ensuring the overall financial well-being of WSHA and its subsidiaries.
She said: “I am delighted to join West of Scotland, where the team are passionate about delivering for their customers. WSHA is a forward-thinking organisation ready to push the boundaries and lead in the sector with Passivhaus, sustainability and mid-market rent projects, to name but a few.
“These are challenging but exciting times for the housing sector and I am really looking forward to working with the team and making a difference across all our communities.”
Brian Gannon, chief executive of WSHA, said: “We are absolutely delighted that we have been able to recruit someone of Valerie’s calibre to join the senior team of West of Scotland group.
“Valerie comes with impressive references and has already demonstrated her significant expertise in financial management to support our business objectives going forward.”
A study by the WHSA last year found that 60% of tenants in Scotland “worried a lot” about affording food.
At the same time, the study of more than 700 social tenants revealed nearly 80% said the same about energy.
In the previous year, the landlord completed a transfer of assets and services from a smaller Glasgow landlord that had faced years of governance problems.
The association took on the tenants and staff of Charing Cross Housing Association in August 2022.
Under the deal, WSHA added 512 rented homes to its stock of approximately 3,500 units, and took responsibility for 900 factored homes, where it will manage communal areas.
