Homes England has appointed its first ever chief operating officer to ensure it is prepared to deliver its housing objectives.

Homes England has appointed its first ever chief operating officer to ensure it is prepared to deliver its housing objectives #UKhousing

Kirsty Shaw, currently chief operating officer at the Care Quality Commission (CQC), will join the government’s housing delivery agency in September.

Homes England said that the new role will involve ensuring that the agency is “appropriately organised and structured” to deliver its objectives on housing and regeneration.

Ms Shaw currently leads the customer and corporate functions of the CQC, as well as having responsibility for a portfolio of policy, digital and organisational change.

On her appointment, she said: “I’m delighted to be joining Homes England as its first COO and am looking forward to helping to build the skills and capabilities the agency needs to help it deliver the significant programme of building homes, unlocking land and helping to support the government’s levelling-up ambitions.”

Peter Denton, chief executive of Homes England, said that the new chief operating officer role is “crucial for us as we think about the next phase of the agency”.

He said: “Kirsty’s experience of leading large-scale operations and complex transformation programmes across central government will help us to continue to strengthen our ability to deliver at pace.”

Mr Denton, who is the former chief executive of Hyde, became the new head of Homes England last year.

The appointment followed an executive team shake-up at the agency, after former chief Nick Walkley stepped down, having led the organisation since its inception in 2018.
