Miss Sian Evans

Sian qualified in 1990 and joined Weightmans as a partner in 2007.

Sian is an experienced speaker, presenting on such topics as anti-social behaviour, disrepair, introductory tenancies, Human Rights Act 1998, exchange, succession, data protection issues and leasehold issues.

Sian has specialist knowledge of housing management issues including possession cases based on rent, convictions for indictable offences, breach of tenancy terms and anti-social behaviour including disability discrimination issues, anti-social behaviour injunctions (with and without notice), dealing with nuisance against tenants and other visitors, Protection From Harassment Injunctions, general estate management issues including exchange, abandoned properties, home loss compensation, squatters and disrepair (including statutory nuisance claims).

Sian regularly appears as an advocate in the Civil Court and Magistrates Court in matters such as Section 11 Disrepair claims and Section 82 Statutory Nuisance claims, injunctions and possession hearings.

Sian advises on leaseholder issues including seeking possession of shared ownership property on the basis of rent arrears, dealing with disputes over service charge and sinking funds representing landlords, and managing agent in the First Tier Tribunal hearings, dealing with applications for dispensation of consultation with required leaseholders. Sian regularly seeks possession and recovery of rent against commercial tenants, business leases renewal and service of notices relating to redevelopment.

Sian was the Chair of the Law Society Housing Committee (2011-14) and currently remains a member of that committee; she sat on the board of Space New Living Limited, Salford from 2000-2007 and contributed to the Which Guide to Renting and Letting 07, 08, 10 and 12 editions. Sian is a member of the Property Litigation Association.

Sian is also listed in Chambers and Legal 500. The service provided by Weightmans is described as “first class, of high quality and the team is very responsive”. Sian is ‘singled out’ for her “excellent knowledge of housing law” and is widely acknowledged as “a great name” in the sector.
