Two Welsh housing associations have announced talks for closer collaboration, including a potential merger.
Tai Ceredigion, a stock transfer landlord with around 2,400 homes, and 1,700-home association Mid-Wales Housing said their boards are exploring “a range of options”.
The pair already work together on maintenance programmes and have plans in place for joint procurement projects.
Over the next 12 to 18 months, they will discuss increasing shared services and joint procurement initiatives, forming a group of companies or a merger.
Karen Oliver, chair of Tai Ceredigion, said: “The objectives of working together are to develop even more affordable homes, and to provide greater employment and training opportunities for our staff and tenants, within the Mid and West Wales region.
“Partnership working could bring exciting new opportunities for tenants, employees and contractors.”
Tai Ceredigion bosses attacked the merger process between troubled landlord Tai Cantref and 9,500-home association Wales & West before the Welsh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee last February, claiming they were given just seven days to make a bid.
Peter Swanson, chair of Mid-Wales Housing, said: “Our overall purpose is to offer enhanced services to our residents and communities, growing the financial strength of the business, and reinvesting any efficiency gains into improving services.”
