Ms White will join 1,400-home Taff Housing Association in September, replacing Elaine Ballard who is retiring.

She is currently chair of the Regulatory Board for Wales (RBW), which scrutinises the work of the Welsh government’s housing regulation team, and chief executive of volunteering charity Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA).

Ms White tweeted to say she “will be very sad to leave” RBW and CWVA.

Keith Edwards, chair of Taff, said: “The board is pleased to have recruited someone of Helen’s capabilities and experience.

“We are confident that Elaine Ballard’s legacy can be continued, putting people at the heart of every action.”

Ms White said: “I am delighted to be joining the team at Taff.

“I know [they] are committed to working with tenants to provide great-quality homes and services as well as a wide range of other opportunities.

“The opportunity to return to work full time in Wales for an organisation that truly values people and tenants is hugely exciting for me.”

Ms White’s career in housing spans 20 years. She was also chair of Knowsley Housing Trust until the end of her tenure in spring – the association was ruled non-compliant last year by the English regulator over fire safety issues.
