The founder of a housing consultancy, who developed a widely-used development appraisal model, has died after a long illness.
David Shelton started Shelton Development Services (SDS) in his back bedroom in 1994 to help developers of both private and social housing with land acquisition, financial viability, legal issues and planning.
He created the development appraisal model ProVal in 1998 and SDS now employs 16 people, with total sales of £1.5m and 350 clients, including 40 local authorities.
Mr Shelton’s son, Phil, paid tribute to his father, saying: “We’re all very, very sad. He was a kind and generous man with great integrity.
“He spent his life dedicated to the housing sector, influencing thousands of people through his work.
“David’s legacy will live on through the people he helped and the software systems he pioneered.”
Mr Shelton died aged 66 on 21 October after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
