One of the UK’s largest housing associations will maintain all of its 56,000 homes through its own property management subsidiary.
After bringing in the remaining 2,000 Devon homes, Sovereign Response and Spectrum Property Care will now provide its services to the association’s entire stock.
Steve Barford, executive director of property at Sovereign, said: “Sovereign will now provide in-house repairs, gas servicing and voids work to all of our 56,000 homes.
“Taking greater responsibility for these important activities is a key part of our plans to provide a consistent service for all our residents as well as bringing down costs, reinvesting the savings into new much-needed affordable homes and services.”
Sovereign recently merged with Spectrum to form a 56,000-home landlord.
The move comes as Birmingham-based housing association Midland Heart announced a second expansion of its own property care team, which will increase its property portfolio from 11,600 to 17,000, almost half of Midland Heart’s general needs stock.
Greg Lakin, director of property care at Midland Heart, said: “To support this expansion we will be co-locating with Travis Perkins, our primary material supplier, by opening two satellite offices in Walsall and Stoke and changing the way we work to implement a more efficient material supply chain.
“All operatives will also be provided with iPads which directly link via a live interface to our suppliers so they know what stock is needed and when.”
