The Lewisham Council development in Deptford is made up of 22 social homes and 34 shared ownership homes #UKhousing

The development at 1 Creekside in Deptford is made up of 22 social homes and 34 shared ownership homes.

Lewisham Council said the scheme will help both those looking to get on the housing ladder and provide homes for families on the housing waiting list, with priority given to people already living and working in the borough.

With over 10,000 families currently on the housing waiting list, the new social homes have been delivered through the council’s Building for Lewisham programme, which it said is a vital part of its plan to tackle the housing crisis.

Damien Egan, mayor of Lewisham, visited the new development on Tuesday and met with some of the building’s new residents.

He said: “I’m pleased we’ve been able to deliver a high-quality, 100% genuinely affordable housing development that includes homes for families on our housing waiting list and for local people who have been struggling to get onto the housing ladder.

“Tackling the housing crisis requires innovative solutions that meet the different needs of our residents, and thanks to the council’s acquisition of this project, we’ve been able to do just that.”

Last month, the council bought back 117 homes after receiving funding through the mayor’s Right to Buy-back scheme.

At the time, Lewisham explained that it had been buying back former council homes sold through the Right to Buy, to house families on its waiting list since February 2022.
