Ms Sutton will take over the role on 1 January 2021, having previously served as deputy chief executive at the 8,000-home North West landlord.

Ms Sutton joined Salix Homes in 2008 when the organisation was the ALMO for Salford City Council. She successfully led the stock transfer of homes from the local authority in 2015, to convert Salix Homes into a housing association.

Before joining Salix Ms Sutton, who said she was honoured by the appointment, worked in the social housing sector in and around Liverpool.

Mr Sugden announced he would be stepping down earlier this year after spending six years at the helm of the organisation.

Ms Sutton said: “I have seen the organisation evolve from an ALMO into a registered provider and I have a clear sense of direction for Salix in the coming months and years.

“I am very much looking forward to working with the board, our partners and stakeholders and of course the Salix team as we look to advance the organisation into the future.”

Jim Battle, chair of Salix Homes, praised Ms Sutton’s track record and understanding of its residents.

He added: “We are confident Sue will lead Salix into the future with energy and commitment, building on the organisation’s core values.

“We have recently launched a new three-year plan that focuses on the key areas of our homes, our businesses and our services. All of the board are looking forward to working with Sue to deliver the ambitions within this plan that will see Salix through the next phase of our journey.”
