Five buildings complete cladding remediation work despite lockdown pauses
Work to remove and replace aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding completed on five buildings last month, though work on a further 52 has been put on hold as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
Government building safety data showed that work was completed on two high-rise buildings in the social sector in April, alongside three in the private sector.
Cladding remediation work was started on 10 high-rise buildings in the private sector, but work did not start on any new buildings in the social sector.
There are now 180 high-rise buildings in the private sector that are yet to have ACM remediation work completed and 82 in the social sector, according to the latest figures.
The government update also revealed that work has paused on 52 buildings as a result of the coronavirus crisis, with work having paused and restarted on a further 14 buildings.

Of the 52 buildings where remediation work has paused, 24 are in the social sector and 22 in the private sector, alongside four student accommodation blocks and two hotels.
Housing secretary Robert Jenrick has said that around 70% of affected blocks saw remediation stopped at the start of the crisis.
At the end of March, Inside Housing reported that residents of New Capital Quay in Greenwich, east London, one of the first private blocks discovered to have ACM cladding, were notified that cladding work would pause during the crisis.
Since then the government has published guidance stating that it is “possible” for cladding remediation work to continue, adding that construction companies and commissioners should consider how best to proceed.
In mid-April, Mr Jenrick, alongside mayors and local leaders, signed a pledge to ensure building safety work continues during the coronavirus pandemic.
