The National Housing Federation has published an apprenticeship standard for young people who wish to start a career in housing.
Nine housing associations, including Aspire Group, Amicus Horizon and Affinity Sutton, have been working with the federation on a standard since March, when prime minister David Cameron announced that the housing sector would join a national Apprenticeship Trailblazer programme
The apprenticeship standard includes requirements to undertake collaborative working, respond to vulnerability and display negotiating skills.
The standard will be reviewed in three years.
David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation, said: ‘The standards published today have been designed by the housing sector for the housing sector to support the future training needs of all housing managers.
‘Not only will the new standards improve the quality of apprenticeships by increasing skills and adaptability, but we also hope it will create more opportunities and encourage more young people to consider housing as a career.’
Inside Housing’s successful Homes Work campaign earlier this yearr encouraged housing and construction organisations to offer more apprenticeships. It resulted in 78 social landlords pledging to provide at least 1,892 apprenticeships and training opportunities during 2014/15.
