New Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) president Elly Hoult has launched a campaign encouraging people to choose housing as a career.
Ms Hoult, who is chief operating officer and deputy chief executive at Peabody, took up her role as president of the CIH at the trade body’s annual general meeting on 14 October.
She is joined by new CIH vice-president Julie Haydon, director of corporate services at Wolverhampton Homes.
On Monday, Ms Hoult unveiled her presidential campaign, called Choose Housing, which will run throughout her time in office. The campaign will raise awareness of the career opportunities in the housing sector.
Writing on Linkedin, Ms Hoult said: “In social housing, we don’t just build homes we build communities.
“While many of us ‘fell into housing’, choosing a career in housing is about celebrating our profession, highlighting the incredible opportunities it offers working with residents, and using our collective voice to inspire the next generation of housing professionals to choose housing.”
She added: “No matter who you are or where you come from, choosing the right career can shape your future. In the housing sector, we do more than provide homes – we create opportunities, build communities and make a real difference in people’s lives. Whether you’re just starting out or are looking to make a change, there’s a place for everyone in housing.
“I’m looking forward to working with CIH, its members and the wider sector and industry contractors throughout this campaign to showcase the amazing career opportunities housing provides.”
Within the campaign, Ms Hoult has chosen to raise money for children’s charity Barnardo’s.
She said: “Their work to support children to be more hopeful centres around enabling children experiencing challenges to move into adulthood with hope and confidence, including career guidance and opportunities which resonates deeply with my campaign.”
Gavin Smart, chief executive of the CIH, said: “Elly’s presidential campaign provides a fantastic platform to showcase housing as a career of choice, inspire the next generation of housing professionals and encourages new opportunities for the next generation of housing professionals.
“As a founding member of CIH Futures and now in her role as CIH president, Elly is the ideal person to inspire people to choose housing.”
Last week, Inside Housing spoke to Jill Murray, Ms Hoult’s predecessor as CIH president, about her walk up Scafell Pike to raise money for Action for Children and her new role as chief executive of Launchpad, a homeless veterans’ charity.
