L&Q, one of the country’s biggest builders of social housing, has announced the appointment of Vicky Savage as its new group director of development and sales.
Ms Savage takes over the role vacated by Fiona Fletcher-Smith who was appointed chief executive of the 105,000-home landlord in January.
Joining L&Q in November 2017, Ms Savage’s most recent role was London managing director, overseeing the association’s development operations across the capital.
In her new role she will oversee L&Q’s major Barking Riverside project, which aims to create more than 10,000 new homes in east London. Ms Savage will also work with recently acquired Trafford Housing Trust to deliver new homes in Greater Manchester and the North West of England.
Ms Savage, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the sector, will also lead on L&Q’s off-site manufacturing programme in which it has committed to building 1,500 homes via modern methods of construction.
She will manage L&Q Estates, one of the largest strategic land companies in the UK, controlling land capable of delivering nearly 60,000 new homes.
L&Q ranked second in Inside Housing’s annual Biggest Builders survey for 2020, having completed 2,433 new homes in the year.
MS Savage said: “L&Q has a long track record of delivering quality homes and supporting the creation of thriving neighbourhoods. I look forward to leading L&Q’s first-class development and sales team and working with our partners to build on that success.”
“L&Q has always been an innovative organisation, and in my new role I will be working to ensure our homes are sustainable, that we support smaller organisations as we’ve done with the Build London Partnership, and we support greater diversity in the construction industry.”
In a recent interview with Inside Housing, Ms Fletcher-Smith announced that housebuilding targets would be cut by 70% as the group deals with increased fire safety costs.
On the appointment today, Ms Fletcher-Smith said: “Vicky has successfully led L&Q’s London development team through the most challenging period in our history, with a development pause in February 2020 soon followed by the pandemic and the temporary closure of our construction sites.
“As we now look to the future, Vicky will use her experience and expertise to focus on building safe, high-quality homes and neighbourhoods everyone can be proud of. This will begin with our committed national pipeline of 30,000 homes, of which 19,500 are already on site. At least half of these new homes will be for high-quality affordable housing.”
