Southern Housing Group (SHG) has announced it will deliver an additional 488 homes in London and the South East of England, after agreeing deals on six new development projects.
More than two-thirds (72%) of the 488 homes will be affordable and will contribute to SHG’s target of delivering 7,500 new homes before 2027.
The sites include two former warehouses in Bethnal Green and Southwark, which will deliver 62 and 181 new homes respectively.
SHG will also deliver 119 new homes in Surrey, across two schemes based in Godalming and Guildford. The former accounts for 80 homes and will be delivered as part of a larger 286-home development in partnership with Cala Homes.
A further 75 homes will be delivered across two adjacent sites in Adur, and 51 new homes will be delivered on an 100% affordable site in Kent.
Earlier this week, SHG agreed a deal with Hyde to buy 379 of its homes across Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex.
Oliver Boundy, executive director for development and growth at SHG, said, “There is no doubt that we have made a strong start to 2020. We have already signed contracts on six new sites.
“Taken together, they will add almost 500 new homes to our portfolio – a clear demonstration of our commitment to providing more decent, affordable homes and services to more people right across our operational area.”
“As a well-established registered provider, we have the experience, expertise and appetite to take on bigger landmark projects.
“However, we continue to seek opportunities where we can help fulfil the expectations of the communities we already serve.
“A mix of brownfield and greenfield sites that bring much-needed new homes, amenities and regeneration through the repurposing of the land are always exciting and can deliver real benefits to their communities.”
