Stephen Howlett was awarded a CBE in the list published over the festive period, alongside Jo Boaden, chief executive of the Northern Housing Consortium.

Ms Boaden has been in post at the membership body for northern housing organisations since 2010 and last year also became chair of Newcastle City Council’s ALMO, Your Homes Newcastle.

Mr Howlett stepped down in July last year after 12 years at the head of London’s oldest housing association, having led the organisation into a merger with Family Mosaic.

He said: “I am hugely honoured to have received this award which I owe first and foremost to my family. I am also indebted to the unique Peabody Trust and the amazing colleagues, board members and partners who have helped and supported me through my career.

“I’m sure that they will carry on energetically and enthusiastically working to provide the good quality homes that our people so badly need.”

A number of other figures from the sector were also included in the annual list, which was published last week.

Andrew Robertson, chair of LAR Housing Trust, also received a CBE. The Fife-based housing trust launched in 2016 and aims to build 1,000 affordable homes in Scotland. It was supported last year by a loan from the Bank of Scotland.

Marc Vlessing, chief executive of Pocket Living, the private developer of ‘compact living’ homes, received an OBE for his services to housing delivery.

There was also an MBE for Jane Clarke, former chief executive of Churches Housing Association of Dudley & District, which provides mainly supported housing, and for Peter Andrew, deputy chair of the Home Builders Federation.

Nora Dillon, a committee member at Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association, also received an MBE “for services to affordable housing, credit management and the community”.

Rhona Quinn, a founding member of Northern Irish builder QMAC, also received an OBE.
