The affordable housing funding body has appointed a new deputy chief executive.
Tom Walker will join the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) on a two-year secondment from his current role as director for cities and local growth working across two government departments – the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
The appointment comes at a critical time for the HCA, just as it prepares to re-launch as Homes England. Mr Walker will work for Homes England when it becomes an affordable housing funder, splitting from its regulatory function.
Nick Walkley, chief executive of the HCA, said: “This is a crucial appointment for our organisation as we prepare to launch as Homes England with a renewed ambition to speed up housing delivery and make places better.
“Tom’s place-based focus and extensive relationships will enable us to better align our priorities with combined authorities and other ambitious places to invest in markets and deliver real housing growth.”
Mr Walker said: “This is an exciting time to join the organisation and I’m looking forward to delivering the renewed ambitions of Homes England.
“My focus will be to foster better collaboration and develop new types of partnerships between the public and private sectors to support places and get more homes built.”
