Former Galliard Homes chief executive Don O’Sullivan has been given the top job at brownfield developer Inland Homes.
Mr O’Sullivan takes on the role as chief executive following the announcement that Inland’s founder, Stephen Wicks, stepped down in September.
The new boss will oversee a strategic review of the house builder, after it posted a pre-tax loss of more than £37m in its last trading update.
Mr O’Sullivan joins Inland Homes from developer Galliard Homes, where he worked his way up to chief executive after joining the company in 2001 as a contract manager.
A civil engineering graduate, Mr O’Sullivan worked at Balfour Beatty in London on major contracting projects before being headhunted to join Galliard Homes in 2001.
At the time, Galliard Homes’ construction division was in its infancy and he was employed to grow and expand this in-house capability within the property development business.
Mr O’Sullivan was made group managing director in 2012 and was then appointed as group chief executive in 2017.
Mr O’Sullivan said: “I am pleased to be joining Inland Homes as its new CEO at such a strategically important time. I am looking forward to working with the Inland Homes team to return the business to sustainable profitable growth and to optimising the significant future opportunities available to us.”
Incorporated in the UK in 2005, Inland is an AIM-listed specialist house builder and brownfield developer that focuses on land in the South and South East of England.
In its last trading update, the developer blamed delays in the completion of land sales and unsatisfactory margins in its partnership housing contracts.
It also blamed credit losses for its expected operating loss of £29.3m for the year ending 30 September 2022 and a loss before taxation of £37.1m.
As part of its plans for a strategic review, Inland cited a “drastic shortage of quality consented sites in the South and South East, exacerbated by a highly complex and unpredictable planning system which places considerable demands on developers”.
The builder said its board intends to provide an update on the strategic review in the first quarter of 2023.
Simon Bennett, chair of Inland Homes, said: “I am delighted that Don is joining Inland Homes as its next CEO. I have no doubt that Don has the necessary experience, skills and expertise to take the group to the next stage of its development. He is ideally qualified to lead Inland Homes and his construction expertise will prove to be invaluable. Don will be warmly welcomed.”
