Countryside chair Alan Cherry dies
The founder and chairman of Countryside Properties, Alan Cherry, has died aged 76.
Mr Cherry passed away early on Saturday morning, following a battle with cancer.
Countryside specialises in the creation of sustainable communities and regeneration, and Mr Cherry is credited with pioneering the integration of affordable homes into developments, and arguing that affordable homes should not be recognisable by their form or appearance.
In addition to his work at Countryside, he was also a member of the government’s Urban Task Force, and had been awarded an MBE in 1994 and CBE in 2003.
He was a honorary member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, a past national president of the Home Builders Federation, and had numerous other roles within the regeneration and development sector.
His sons, Graham and Richard, are part of the senior management team at Countryside, and were involved in a management buy out of the company in 2005 with their father. A statement from Countryside said they ‘will continue Alan’s vision and build upon his legacy’.
