Hammersmith & Fulham Homes this week parted company with its chief executive amid controversy, after a leaked Audit Commission report gave the landlord a 'disappointing' rating.

A spokesperson for Hammersmith & Fulham Council said Billy Rae had left the arm's-length management organisation by mutual consent. But news of his departure was initially revealed by the GMB union, which is in dispute with the ALMO over plans to alter the terms and conditions of its contracts with caretakers.

The union revealed that shortly before his departure Mr Rae had sent an email to ALMO staff saying the Audit Commission's reinspection of the organisation was disappointing. GMB organiser Bert Schouwenburg said the email had revealed the ALMO had received a one-star rating.

Mr Schouwenburg said Mr Rae's departure came 'as no surprise' given the inspection result.

The ALMO was set up in June 2004 and received a two-star rating from the Audit Commission in its previous inspection - unlocking millions of pounds of decent homes funding.

The news of Mr Rae's departure came as Hammersmith & Fulham Council admitted that its housing caretakers could lose their jobs if they didn't sign up to new terms and conditions.

The GMB claimed that this would include the loss of tied accommodation and a 24 per cent pay cut.
