Clarion’s development arm has been selected to build up to 9,000 homes at a new garden community in Essex #UKhousing

Latimer has been named as development partner for Tendring-Colchester Borders Garden Community.

Some 30% of the homes to be delivered at the site are intended to be affordable.

The overall project for a site of more than 1,000 acres in the east of Colchester has a gross development value of some £3bn.

Latimer is the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, the UK’s largest housing association, and will work with Mersea Homes, Colchester Borough Council, Tendring District Council and Essex County Council as master developer.

Community and stakeholder engagement will take place over the summer to help shape a masterplan.

Proposals include a country park, commercial space, schools and “significant” employment opportunities.

A new rapid transit system and improved cycling infrastructure will give access to Colchester and a new link road will join two nearby main roads.

Richard Cook, group director of development at Clarion, said: “Placemaking is at the heart of what we do at Latimer, and this project presents an opportunity for us to set a new standard for the delivery of affordable and private homes, community facilities and employment opportunities whilst improving connectivity in the North Essex area.”
