City Hall has published a draft planning framework to guide the development of thousands of homes in an area of east London.
The governing body of London today published its draft Opportunity Area Planning Framework, which outlines a strategy for the development of the Isle of Dogs and South Poplar.
The traditionally deprived area of east London has seen rapid growth in recent decades, with Canary Wharf emerging as the country’s major financial district.
Jules Pipe, deputy mayor for planning, regeneration and skills, said: “Today we’re setting out the mayor’s vision for the Isle of Dogs and South Poplar. This document will help deliver hundreds of homes and thousands of jobs in east London, while ensuring that established communities benefit too.
“We have particularly emphasised design and delivery, so that any construction disruption is minimised.”
The framework is designed “to make sure that housing and employment growth is well-supported by the necessary infrastructure”, according to the City Hall website.
The draft framework “identifies what infrastructure is needed and suggests ways to deliver this, to make sure that the mayor’s ‘good growth’ agenda is delivered”, it says.
