The boss of a Yorkshire housing association is to retire after a 35-year career at the landlord.
Paul Gartland will step down as chief executive officer of Horton Housing on 31 March 2024, having worked at the landlord for almost 36 years. The past nine were in the top role.
Mr Gartland has seen the Bradford-based housing association grow from “very small beginnings” to an organisation that employs 350 staff across West and North Yorkshire.
He will be replaced by Gudrun Haskins-Carlisle, who is currently deputy chief executive officer.
Ms Haskins-Carlisle has spent 24 years working at the association and will take up the position on 1 April 2024, subject to formal agreement by Horton’s board.
Horton’s turnover grew by 18% to £21.5m in the year to 31 March 2023. It generated an operating surplus of £2.2m, including £1.8m of social housing capital grants.
The landlord owns 632 homes and developed 40 new homes in 2022-23.
Mr Gartland said: “I am proud of the achievements of the association and confident that the association made up of its board, employees, volunteers and people in our services will continue to grow and prosper in the years to come.”
There have been a number of senior people moves across the sector since the turn of the new year this week.
Large developer Willmott Dixon has appointed a new chief executive and chair following the retirement of the current chair.
The firm has announced that Rick Willmott will move from group chief executive to become the new executive chair. He replaces Colin Enticknap, who retired at the end of 2023.
As a result, chief financial officer Graham Dundas has been promoted to chief executive.
Prior to that, Andrew Cowan, head of social housing at Devonshires, revealed that he will be stepping down from his role after 33 years at the law firm.
