Hannah Jones, specialist intervention officer at ClwydAlyn in Wales, talks us through a week of working with the police and health services to support residents and tackle anti-social behaviour
Monday
I start the week with a Monday morning meeting with ClwydAlyn’s housing officers to chat through any issues or difficult cases they may be working on.
Today, I have arranged for local police colleagues to sit in on our meeting to share some of the work they’re doing. Partnership working like this means we can see cases and activities they are involved in that will be linked to our work as a housing association.
As part of a scheme visit, I join a housing officer at a sheltered accommodation scheme to look for any areas of improvement and investigate any issues such as neighbour disputes.
We’ve agreed to hold a residents’ meeting that will focus on the issues raised so that we can identify what the residents can do to tackle and report anti-social behaviour, and what actions ClwydAlyn needs to take.
Following this, I chair a multi-agency meeting to discuss a complex case that involves safeguarding concerns for an older resident.
Tuesday
My priority this morning is to focus on completing the actions from the multi-agency review yesterday.
My role also involves travelling to all parts of Wales where we have homes, so this morning I’m meeting with a member of ClwydAlyn’s east team so that we can make a home visit after receiving several complaints about a tenant who is believed to have someone staying with them who is responsible for anti-social behaviour.
I will then contact other relevant agencies to complete a safeguarding referral before heading back home.
Wednesday
A key part of my job involves working with other agencies, such as the police and local authorities. Today I contact the police, who join me to conduct a search at a property where the resident was a victim of cuckooing.
After this, I represent ClwydAlyn at a housing meeting to discuss three cases – and feed back to the relevant housing officers working on the cases to complete any actions.
It’s important to set aside time to compete admin tasks such as answering emails and finalising the draft of a policy and survey questionnaire, so that’s how I finish the day.
Thursday
Today is a busy day!
I’m at a community centre this morning for a meeting with the police and a resident who has been assessed as high risk. The woman hasn’t shown up, so we attempt to speak with her at her property, but this doesn’t work either, so we’ve scheduled in some time to discuss solutions.
I then travel to a different county to conduct a home visit to meet with a complainant who has raised an alarm about ongoing drug misuse. This is a tricky case as there is also a counter-complaint from a neighbour and no evidence to support the case on either side.
I’m following up a home visit I made on Tuesday and I’ve scheduled another meeting on Friday to go over their tenancy agreement.
I follow up my daily work by recording information on the system, responding to emails and planning meetings with housing officers to review actions on cases they are having difficulties with.
Friday
It’s finally the end of the week, but I still have lots to review.
I’m chairing a professional meeting to discuss safeguarding issues and concerns following a home visit earlier in the week. We’ll be working with social services to identify suitable temporary accommodation for the tenant in question.
I’m then having an online meeting with a housing officer to discuss a case and offer some advice on it.
Following this, I’m attending a mental health unit to check in with a tenant who has recently been sectioned, so that we can review the behaviour with a community psychiatric nurse and work with them on a safe discharge.
Then finally, I’m meeting with IT to review a new case management system for resident concerns so that things can be processed more easily in future.
It’s been a busy week, so I’m looking forward to wrapping things up in the office and enjoying the sunshine for the weekend ahead!
